The Maiden Camping Venture

It is official! Though the weather may still be giving us a hard time, camping season in the Perkins household has officially BEGUN! After a week of Jon and I packing, cleaning, organizing, and fixing the camper, we headed out on Memorial Day weekend on our maiden voyage. We trucked down to the big city of Monango, ND, where our good friends Corey and Missy Genter have a small hobby farm with other members of Corey's family. So, no, we weren't on the lake or in some campground somewhere, but it was camping none-the-less. And the trip was a SUCCESS! (I always get a little nervous on that first go-round.)
The boys played (and played and played) with their friend Carter and all of his cousins. And when I say play, PLAY is an understatement. There were SOOOO many things to do (despite the cruddy weather). They played in the sandbox, flew kites, had a bonfire, and ran. RAN! And then they slept. Wow, did they sleep! All night long, and for a few hours on Sunday afternoon. When we got home Monday, Braxton then slept for 4 hours that afternoon and Kyler took two naps. Jon even refused to move off of the couch for more than a few brief periods of time. I guess a little bit of fresh air will do a boy good :).
When we left, Braxton said that he wants to "camp there every day!". He couldn't get enough. When we contemplated coming home Sunday because of the cruddy weather, he begged to stay. Fortunately, it didn't rain, but was just kind of "yucky", which didn't seem to faze them a bit. It was great to see the kids out, just being kids. Running and playing and having a great time. It made me really remember what summer is all about. It felt great to get all of those winter "sleepers" out! And it's got us ready to go for more! Camper in tow :).

Welcome

I've decided to start this blog as a way to keep all of our friends and family updated on the day to day excitement in our home. Now that Braxton has joined the fun circle of Perkins life, it seems everyone is always asking how we are doing. Or wanting to see pictures of the baby (no one ever asks for pictures of "you and the baby" - funny how that works ;). Now, everyone will be able to check in on us whenever they want. Enjoy!
