Braxton's Big Week

Last week was a big week for Braxton.  Last Wednesday he graduated from Preschool.  I do have to say it was a bit bittersweet.  It is so hard to believe that he will be going to Kindergarten next year.  Though it is such a monumental event, I do have to say that both he and I will probably miss the comfort of Miss Tammy and Child In Our Hands Preschool.  In the two years that he has been there, he has learned so much.  Upon graduation, he has about 130 "sight words".  He is also learning how to sound out words and is able to read simple books.  He can write his name and many other words.  He is starting to learn how to tell time.  He can cut, glue, match, color, etc, etc.  Not to mention all of the social things that he has learned over the last several years.  But still, like any mom, I worry about how ready he is for the big, bad world of Kindergarten.  Will he be able to tolerate the long days?  Will he be comfortable with the other kids?  Will he be able to keep up?  He can be very sensitive at times.  Which, in my opinion, is a great attribute.  But, I worry about how that will translate once he gets to school.  Though I am certain I am worrying about nothing, and he will do just amazingly well, that mother instinct in me makes it hard to even think about letting him go into the big world all alone.  It makes me nervous just typing it!

Anyway, to continue on with Braxton's exciting week - Friday was Braxton's birthday.  He turned the big 5.  A whole hand!  Wow, where has the time gone!  He has been counting down to his birthday for months.  And I don't think he was disappointed.  We had a small party for him at the campground.  Everyone froze their you-know-whats.  And then they went home :).  But, in the mean time, we had some great food (with the help of both the grandmas - THANK YOU), the kids ran around like crazy, and Braxton got some great gifts.  He was nothing but happy.  He enjoyed every minute with his family and friends.  He even had his buddy Jackson stay over night in the camper.  All in all, a success.  And a great way to cap off a great, and memorable, week!

So I don't teach kindergarten, but I do spend a lot of time in there. Based on what you said he can do, Braxton is going to be just fine! He can do more than some of our kinder grads! And the whole sensitivity thing, well I've seen even the toughest, baddest little 5-year-olds break down and cry over something that went wrong. Trust me, you have nothing to worry about! My only question is, how can he possibly be 5??!! Seriously, time flies!
