Wally and Papa
As Etta moves past her second birthday, we are excited to hear her talking more and more. She is starting to put together two and three word sentences, such as "More please" "Night-night Mama", "No-no Bracky!!", etc. And as the kids have been home this summer, spending their long, leisurely days with one another, she has found a new infatuation with her brothers. Everywhere they go, she goes. Everything they do, she does. She loves so much to be in their company. Unfortunately, calling her brothers by name has turned into quite the event. She easily calls Braxton "Bracky", which is what we have all called him from time to time since he started calling himself that at Etta's age. But Kyler has been a bit more of a battle. After trying out various names for him (we tried to get her to call him "KyKy", which she can easily say, she just chooses not to), she has settled on "Wally". Why Wally, I have NO idea. Initially, Kyler was less than impressed. But, as this has gone on for a few weeks to a month now, he has settled into it quite nicely. He will even refer to himself as "Wally", which is quite hilarious - "Etta, can Wally have that? Give that back to Wally." So, now it's stuck. All day long - "Where's Wally?" "No no Wally!" "Night night Wally" "WALLLYYYY!!!" When she is looking for them, or is just feeling goofy, she uses her little sing-song voice "Braaaacky. Waaaally. Braaaacky. Waaaally." Over and over.
And as we work through "naming" people, she is working hard on confusing all of her grandparents about who she is talking to. She has named all four of them "Papa". So, no matter who it is, when she needs something, it's "Papa!". Initially, the grandpas were jumping to her every request, only to learn that she was talking to them only about 1/2 of the time. We have tried about everything to get her to come up with something different for each of them, without success. She simply sticks with "Papa". I suppose she figures why discriminate if she can get everyone to jump at her whim with just one word? Maybe she's being more strategic than we think, now that I am thinking about this :).
Needless to say, we have a bit of progress to be made in the name department. But Detta (as she calls herself) is making progress and it's fun to see the different names she comes up with.
