Quarantine
2020 has been nothing if not unique. The Coronavirus/Covid-19 pandemic has created a whole new world for everyone one of us. This will be a time to look back and recall "remember when". Remember when we were stuck in our house for months, when the kids were asked to abruptly end school and the activities that they love so much? Remember when we were no longer able to go out to eat, couldn't go to the park, couldn't see our friends and family? Remember when the kids could no longer go into the store, and we only when once or twice a week, for fear of catching something?
Thus far, we have been very fortunate to not have anyone that we know personally affected by the Coronavirus. And Jamestown itself has only had 11 cases (and no deaths!). And businesses and communities are starting to slowly open. But we are surely not out of the clear just yet. The State is implementing wider testing, NDSH has it's first case of a diagnosed employee, and there are still so many unknowns.
But despite all of the life upset we've experienced, there are many upsides to this quarantine. It has taught the kids about self-sufficiency and independence. It has encouraged the kids to work more closely together and enjoy each other's company. It has allowed Jon and I to try our hands at home schooling (we are probably not looking at a career change any time soon!). And it has allowed us to spend much more quality together. Despite the fact that Jon and I are both still working, we are no longer running from activity to activity in the evenings and on the weekends. So, we are taking that time to work together on home projects (everyone's bedrooms are now painted!) and spend time together doing "family" things like board games, movies, hikes, and just sitting on the patio enjoying each other's company.
"Every cloud has a silver lining."
